Northern New Mexican Horsemen's Association Meeting November
18 (one week earlier, this month only) - Farrier Robert Holt
with veterinarian Stuart McCall - Robert Holt and Stuart McCall
have collaborated in the Santa Fe area for over 20 years on equine
lameness. The role of the horse owner, veterinarian, and farrier
will be discussed emphasizing the importance of working together
for a successful outcome to a debilitating disease. Slides and videos
will highlight x-rays, a foundered horse's appearance and the shoeing
systems available for application NEW LOCATION RealBurger restaurant.

Riders:
Cost: $325/ rider. Clinic limited to 15 riders. If paid in full
by the 1st of December, 2009, cost is $275. A non-refundable fee
of $100 is due upon reservation. If for some reason you cannot make
it to the clinic, you may transfer your spot to another person.
No refunds for paid-in-full reservations if cancelled less than
4 weeks before clinic unless there is a waiting list. If you are
bringing an auditor, please let us know, so they will have their
own clinic shirt and a spot for food! Beginners are very welcome.
Auditors:
Auditors are welcome! Auditing cost is $25/day or $40/weekend, auditors
are asked to please register early. Cost will include everything
but the horse: a clinic t-shirt, Saturday lunch, questions/answer
session with Diane Guinn, and are welcome to participate in the
clinic as much as they want.

Northern New Mexico Horsemen's Association Meeting January 27,
2010 Transitioning Mustangs to Domestication Alicia
Nation, president of the New Mexico Mustang and Burro Association,
will talk about her experiences adopting BLM mustangs at Colorado
BLM Facility and her process of transitioning the three horses she
brought home to a domestic environment. Inspired by the encounter
with the many gentle, willing and beautiful BLM horses awaiting
homes, she founded the New Mexico Mustang and Burro Association
(www.nmmba.org) and Shaking Wind Ranch (www.shakingwindranch.com)
to educate people about the true nature of wild horses and their
accessibility for the average horseperson. 11/17/09

all welcome: Dr. Doug Thal: "Parasite control revisitedâ€
After 40 years of aggressive and often indiscriminate worming, we
are learning that there are some disturbing trends in parasite resistance
to our commonly used equine dewormers . What this means isÂ
that horse people and veterinarians need to rethink how they are
deworming horses. Dr. Thal will present some new ideas on parasites
and deworming and describe the approach he suggests based on recent

all welcome: Doug Lanham: â€The Spanish Mustang
Foundation†is comprised of individuals from a
wide variety of backgrounds who, together, provide a broad array
of experience, leadership and expertise in protecting the Spanish
Mustang. What joins these people by a common thread is their commitment
and enthusiasm to protect and preserve this exceptional horse. Mr.
Lanham began his involvement with the Spanish Mustangs in the late
1990's and has been an active supporter of the Brislawn Family and
Spanish Mustang Registry. He is currently a board member of the
Horse Shelter and the Espanola Valley Humane Society. RealBurger

all welcome: Susan Smith: â€Ortho-Bionomy for Equinesâ€
Registered Ortho-Bionomy practitioner Susan Smith has adapted Ortho-Bionomy
bodywork principles to suit a being who stands on four legs most
of the time, lowers its head to the ground to eat, and whose structure
is designed for speed, agility and performance. Susan will do a
demo on 2-3 horses to show how Equine Ortho-Bionomy can address
such issues as structural imbalance, lameness, trauma, chronic and
acute injuries, joint pain and stiffness and behavioral issues.
Meeting to be held on the grounds of NNMHA, 3233 Rodeo Road, between
the Rodeo Grounds and the Chavez Center. Drive toward the chain

Come join Habanero Polocrosse every Sunday
at noon for a Whackin' Good Time at the Habanero Polocrosse
Field at 2247 Kelly RD SW located a few blocks north of Arenal off
of Atrisco (turn East on Kelly). We seek riders of all disciplines
to join in this fun, competitive sport that builds on your horse's
agility while improving your riding skills and at the same time
developing ball skills and team-playing. At this time, our club
seeks riders that are minimally comfortable riding at the lope.
The lack of ball skills is NOT an issue.... you will be pleasantly
surprised at your ability to handle the ball and racket, even for
those who do not consider themselves to be particularly athletic.
Of course, if you are a strong rider and have great hand-eye coordination,
then you will love moving up quickly in this fast-paced dynamic
game. We teach you how to safely integrate your horse so come check
us out- you are welcome to ride our trained horses and we always
