Hi, I recently acquired a large 18 X 24" Receipt book from the late 1870s with over 150 receipts made out to a Mr. St. Julien of Chicago Ill from various Saddlery, tack, and hardware stores including many from the famous Squires Bros. & Co. dated 1881. The "Bill heads" are very Elaborate and are surely an important piece of American Equestrian history.I would like to sell it as a lot for a nominal price. If you are interested please call me at 727-442-3990 or Email at mweir143@tampabay.RR.com . Thanks for your interest. Mike 3/18/08

Invite Spring and a Wild Horse into Your Home this April!
Chestnut, bay, gray, strawberry roan, and white; like a palette of colorful spring wildflowers, you can welcome a wild horse or burro from America’s western ranges into your home this spring! Coming to the Eastern States Adoption Facility in Ewing, Illinois, April 4 and 5, 2008, the Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States (BLM-ES) will host a wild horse and burro adoption where you can choose from an assortment of colorful animals.
“Adoptions at our Ewing facility offer folks a great selection of ages and colors to choose from,” said BLM-ES State Director, Juan Palma. “Your willingness to give these sure-footed, hard working animals a good home helps protect the longevity of western ranges while providing you an incredible companion,” he said.
In addition to adopting the wild horse or burro you’ve always wanted, each adopter will receive one free halter, great for use with this newest addition to your family.
Animals are available for adoption from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The adoption is first come, first served, with a flat fee of $125 for animals less than three-years-old and $25 for animals three-years and older. Additionally, adopt any wild horse or burro and select a buddy animal to take home for only $25.
Wild horses that have been gentled are used for western riding events, dressage, and trail riding. They are noted for their endurance and intelligence and make great additions to your farm or ranch. Burros are great companion animals and are sometimes used by farmers and ranchers to protect young stock and sheep from wild dogs and coyotes.
“While the adoption process is simple and straightforward, anyone considering adopting a wild horse or burro should remember that the animals are wild and require gentling and training,” Palma said.
Prospective adopters must have sturdy corrals that are 20’ x 20’ (or larger), at least 6 feet high for an adult horse and at least 5 feet high for burros and horses younger than 18 months, and have a shelter directly attached to the corral. Adopters must provide a stock-type, step up trailer (ramps or split two-horse type trailers are not allowed). The BLM staff will halter and load animals onto the adopters’ trailers.
Applications to adopt will be reviewed throughout Friday and Saturday’s adoption. For more information on the application process, call 1-866-4MUSTANGS or visit www.wildhorseandburro.blm.gov to download an application. Potential adopters are asked to call early to be pre-approved and avoid waiting in line. You can also visit www.es.blm.gov/whb/ or www.wildhorseandburro.blm.gov/adoption to get requirement information and instructions to become a qualified adopter. 3/5/08
